ICU WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2010
SLOVENIAN NATIONAL TEAMS
Slovenian Cheerleading Association (SCA) sends Slovenia's best cheerleaders and cheerdancers to the 2nd ICU World Championship of Cheerleading and Cheerdance, which will be held in Orlando, Florida, USA on April 22-23. Below are our delegation's presentations – that way you can get to know our competitors better and hopefully cheer more loudly when they perform J We wish all the teams presenting on the World Championships lots of luck, new acquaintances and fun!
FREESTYLE CHEERDANCE – THE LADIES

The Ladies are a group of 25 young girls who share an amazing amount of positive energy, commitment to team work and above all love for dance. The team practices 10 to 14 hours a week with their coach, who along with being their friend can also be an authority when needed.
Last season the Ladies attended the Elite cheerleading championship in Bottrop, Germany, where they won the gold medal that qualified them to the IASF Dance Worlds. So this year they are putting in a great deal of effort into one main goal - representing our little country of Slovenia as best as they can in the biggest event for cheerdancers throughout the world.
The girls themselves think that “in our seven-years-long career we went through good and bad together, even some injuries, which only made us stronger. But we’d never have made it if there were not so many people standing behind us - families, friends and all who made our dance story so successful. We are grateful to all of them for being here for us.”

DANCEDOUBLES FREESTYLE - MAŠA OCEPEK & KATJA ZUPAN (THE BEASTIES)

Katja and Maša have been dancing for over 5 years and both prefer the more sporty, physically demanding kind of dance, hence the decision to compete in Freestyle dance doubles. They qualified to the ICU WC by winning Rompompon 2010. You can have a look at their performance. |
DANCEDOUBLES HIP HOP - MAŠA PAVLIČ & ANJA BAJDA (THE BEASTIES)
Maša dances for more than 4 years whilst Anja has years of ballet training and has been in cheerdance for 3 years. They have chosen to compete in hip hop dance doubles since they love the style and also enjoy new challenges. Their performance on Rompompon 2010 brought them the ticket to the World Championship. Dance team The Beasties have been competing in junior cheerdance on championships in Slovenia and abroad. The 9 girls all come from a small town in Slovenian midland, Dol pri Hrastniku. When 4 of the girls qualified for the ICU World Championships in Dance Doubles, the dynamic and intensity of trainings has changed. The team supports them proudly and follows their progress with interest. All 4 dancers along with the choreographer and coach Vesna Planinc are thankful to the rest of the team, their friends and parents, who believe in them and their dreams.
COED PARTNER STUNT - MATEJ KAVČNIK & SARA GRUDEN (WHITE DRAGONS)

Matej and Sara have represented Slovenia on the ICU WC in 2009 when they scored an amazing 3rd place. They were also the best among all European stunt couples, being beaten only by team USA and Chile. Last year's result motivated them even more to practice and prepare for a great placing in 2010. They both train with the cheerleading team White Dragons where Matej is also the lead coach and choreographer. With them and before that with cheerleading team Frogs they have been reaching outstanding results in their whole career. Last summer they have trained with Dustin Santori where they gained new knowledge, ideas and courage. They both possess a USASF level 5 coaching license, run SCA seminars and workshops in Slovenia and abroad and also cooperate with Elite staff.

CHEERDANCE JUDGE - KATARINA CAFNIK

Katarina is a long-time dancers, coach and choreographer of cheerdance team Tiger Cats. Multiple national champion with Tiger Cats and cheerleading team Warriors. Cheerleading and cheerdance judge in Slovenia and abroad and is actively involved in educating judges. Runs and organizes SCA seminars and workshops in Slovenia, Austria, Poland. |
CHEERLEADING JUDGE AND DELEGATION CHIEF - ALJAŽ BRITVIČ

Aljaž started his career in 1998 as a member of cheerleading team Warriors and continued it with the White Dragons, with whom he also competed on last year's ICU WC. He was the assistant coach with the White Dragons and coached many, including a senior individual of the White Dragons, a junior and senior individual of the Frogs, junior cheerleading team Stars, junior coed and allgirl team Frogs, allgirl group stunt of the Frogs. He is a licensed gymnastics coach, president of the SCA, SCA and ICU judge, member of ICU rulebook committee and possesses a USASF level 5 coaching license. |
